Review:

Karen Carr’s “Littlest Penguin,” illustrated by K.C. Snider, is a warm story of learning to live with your limitations and your blessings. Pogo is a runt of an Emperor Penguin. Sadly, the other penguins his age tease him about his small size and don’t want him around. He spends his time practicing sliding and leaping—which he’s quite good at. His mother reassures him that he is special and one day he’ll see just how special he is. The artwork by K.C. Snider is a visual treat. Even if the children you’re reading the story to haven’t learned to read yet, they will understand most of the story from the expressive illustrations. And if they can read, they’ll appreciate the story and the artwork even more. Ms. Carr has also included interesting factual information about Emperor Penguins, their natural habitat and how they live. Highly recommended for ages 5 through 8. Older readers will appreciate the Penguin facts and be able to discuss the problems of teasing and bullying.~ Reviewed by: Penelope Anne Cole-Award Winning Author of Magical Matthew, Magical Mea, Mágico Mateo (Spanish).
