Hee Hawlelujah
Scene 1

[Opens with Poncho feeling very sad because he’s the smallest donkey. He sings “Runt of the Litter”.]

Song #1–Runt of the Litter
[Poncho sings]
Verse
I don’t mean to sound bitter
But why am I the runt of the litter?
Why me? Why me?
Wish I could be the pick of the litter,
Instead of needing a babysitter?
Why me? Why me?

Chorus
I hope to grow up big and strong
And pull my weight all day long
But right now I’ll just have to wait
Please excuse me while I bellyache.
Why me? Why me?
[last time only] Why me?
Verse
I don’t mean to sound bitter
But why am I the runt of the litter?
Why me? Why me?
Wish I could be the pick of the litter,
Instead of needing a baby sitter?
Why me? Why me?

Chorus

[Poncho walks over to other donkeys. He feels defeated.]
Poncho: Sancho, look at that stone over there. It is my favorite color.

Sancho: You mean the red one?

Taco: I never noticed that one before. Have you, Burrito?

Burrito: No, but it is a very unusual color.

Poncho: [feeling a little more hopeful] I think I can pull that one.

Taco: You can’t even pull a load of straw. How are you going to pull that heavy stone?

Poncho: Well, I won’t know unless I try. [Poncho tries to pull the stone.]

[Other donkeys cheer him on.]
