Foreword
Back when I played
basketball in school, my coach impressed upon my team, “Always keep
your eye on the ball.”
It was a line that
applied both on and off the court.
But what is the ball? Is it a physical ball for a sporting event, or is it a
representation of the globe we all share?
Professional sports
have fostered what is called “role models.” Fans even go as far as to
call some of these individuals “heroes.” There’s a big difference
between being a role model and a model with a role.
Heroes could be
found on 9/11. Heroes can be found in slums. Heroes can be found in
every corner of this great nation of ours. Most go unnoticed, but
joined by patriotism, the collective moves us. It is a team not
identified by jerseys, but by ideals and commitment. Their opponent is
apathy, and their prize is this country.
In Dreamchaser,
we present a court that is not a game, but a reality. A young boy of
fourteen with NBA potential is confronted by a bigger picture that
surpasses fame and fortune. It is an awakening that reveals what makes
our nation rich beyond monetary gain. Our national treasure is its
people. People who care.
We’ve sewn a flowing flag of glory, and created a
dialogue of resilience: one where seeds of hope are planted, and the
fruit is harvested and shared by all. Believing one person can make a
difference to the many is the direction of this story...the direction
to a better world. —Kevin Collier
